Volunteer Opportunities
Classroom Volunteers
Emergency Snack Provider- If the assigned family is unable to bring snack on their week, the emergency snack provider will do it instead. Assigned family will need to reimburse the emergency snack provider. Ideally this volunteer is someone who lives near the school so that the snack can arrive in a timely manner.
Material/Classroom Repair Helper- Volunteer will help with minor repairs in the classroom (when needed). The repairs may have to do with furniture, but may also relate to some of the classroom materials.
Tracing/Scissor Helper- This volunteer will help prep any lesson material for the classroom during various times of the year (as needed). The teacher will provide the materials and instructions. This volunteer opportunity can be completed at home.
Classroom Cleaner- These volunteers will assist with various cleaning tasks in the classroom at the end of the school day (2:35-3:00 PM). Volunteers will help once a month throughout the term (dates will be set by teacher). It is preferred that children DO NOT come with parents. This might not be a glamorous task, but it is extremely appreciated!
Parent Social Coordinator- This coordinator will plan and organize an evening social event for the parents in our class (no teachers attend) in the Fall and Spring. These social events are a great way for parents to get to know each other.
Garden Helper(s)- We are looking for 1 or 2 volunteers who have an interest and talent in gardening (aka "green thumb") to work with the teachers in prepping the class garden and to check on it from time to time. The children will maintain the garden (watering) throughout the year.
Art Masterpiece- Volunteers must plan an art lesson that includes a short presentation of an artist, along with an activity based on that particular artist's style that is child-friendly (meaning the children can do the activity independently). This will be done once a month and with kindergarteners only (1:00-2:00PM) and should not take more than an hour. If your child is a napper/rester they will NOT be participating, but if supplies are left over we will allow the younger children to do the activity the next school day.

Volunteer will choose ONE child-friendly book from home, read to the classroom, and lead a very quick, short discussion of the book (no more than 5 minutes). This activity will be done right before playground time on Fridays (11:00-11:15 AM). As the title suggests, this person is to remain a "mystery" to all the children (including, if possible, to the volunteer's own child). An email of our "Mystery Reader Guidelines" will be sent the week before the volunteer is scheduled to visit.
Arts & Crafts Volunteer
Once a month an "arts and crafts" class will be led by Mrs. Marie. Teacher assistants will be present while the lead teachers use this as prep time in the classroom. Parent volunteers will assist during the class, which takes place once a month on a designated date at 10:15-11:15 AM. No experience is necessary, but an interest in working with children and be a support to the teachers. Volunteers can sign up for one or more days. On their assigned date, volunteers will park on the ECC campus, and go the ECC office to get a "VISITORS" badge. The receptionist will then direct the volunteer(s) to the correct location to meet the class. Mrs. Marie will present her lesson in the classroom and the children will the walk to the picnic tables near the soccer field to start the project.
